People are losing their wonder.
People rush home to get their fix from the television
As TV life is more brightly coloured and more "exciting"
than what goes on around them.
TV people have exciting adventures when they go shopping.
Real people only get food and washing up powder
People ignore their neighbours,
yet want to know all about
what popstar is sleeping with some other media favourite.
There is so much wonder in the world
And yet people ignore it.
A normal life is "boring"
Everyone dreams of winning the lottery
And *then* life will get better.
No-one is content.
Everyone wants more.
People are more reluctant to think for themselves.
Thinking is boring.
People get what they think from the media.
Slow is sad.
Quick is happy.
Quick is exciting.
Slow is boring.
Patience is lost.
Everything must happen NOW!
Or it's not worth waiting for.
The curse of McDonalds and microwaves.
No-one sees the beauty in the world,
Because they are too attracted to Hollywood dreams,
which shows artificial beauty as being true beauty.
*This* is the 21st Century.
We are losing our identify.
Everyone in Khaki.
Everyone in Yellow.
Everyone in Leather.
Everyone in whatever we tell you to be in.
You will conform.
Billie didn't do well in the charts.
Britney Spears did.
What was the solution to make Billie succeed?
Making her music better?
NO! Give her a second name.
Now Billie Piper gets #1s as well.
And joins the lines of the other Britney clones.
Will the real Britney Spears please stand up?
Originality is dead.
"I am not here, this is not happening"
Originality is dead.
I fear for the future.
What was shocking for my parents parents
became normal for my parents.
What was shocking for the generation above me
became normal for their parents.
What was shocking for my parents
is normal for me.
What is shocking for me
is normal for my children.
What is shocking for my children
will become normal for my grandchildren.
The thing that scares me is:
Nothing shocks me anymore.
I have become desensitised to violence
sex
drugs
gore
filth.
What else is left to shock my grandchildren?
I fear for the future.
Things that give hope for the future :
a) God.
I know and trust that God has a plan
that in the end will work out for everything.
b) Music.
Music can be part of the beauty in this world.
Specifically - Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Radiohead.
Tortoise.
Low.
Sigur Ros.
Spiritualized.
The Rachels.
Corvine.
Do not forget: *THIS* is the 21st Century
Taken from RHML (radiohead mailing list)...
The thing is, I don't believe in "God".
And I don't believe Radiohead can save us...
As much as I'd like to.
<People invented god so they could feel better, more secure about
about dying>
<Don't you see that?>
<Guess which name on that list I find the most appealing>
<HINT: It's not Radiohead>
