That is a remarkable song.  There's two versions with slightly different lyrics floating around ("She stands stark naked/And beckons you to the bed" among others)... the one I've got on CD is that last one, with Thom on acoustic.  The other version, with complete band, is absolutely breathtaking.  Jonny actually plays both the Hammond and Glockenspiel during the song, and towards the end, has one in each hand!

And it's not released as of yet, but will likely be on the next album.

But why did I include it?  As well as being one of my favourite songs, which is a very hard call to make, Thom said that it's about "believing that you're wonderful when you know it's not really true".  And if you want it in simpler terms, it's about believing, hoping, that you can be happy, when you know you don't deserve to be.

I know I can't get into this without getting very personal to my own life, but I'm going to try to anyway, because being objective really is easier for anyone else to understand, and perhaps even empathise with... besides the point, distancing yourself really helps you when you don't want to get close, ie, hurt.

Is there hope for people who really know happiness isn't fully deserved?  The line... "You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking" really sums it up.  People seem to think this means it's about lusting after somebody.  But it's quite the opposite.  It's about thinking for more than lust... thinking for love.  It's telling you that you shouldn't think about things like that... you'll get hurt... don't let your mind in on the idea, you don't deserve her.... don't get any big ideas, because they're not going to happen.
